TLDR Brassica oleracea extract, glucosinlates, and sulforaphane can boost hair growth and might be used to treat hair loss.
The research by Zhen Luo and Xuewu Zhang found that Brassica oleracea extract (BOE), glucosinlates, and sulforaphane can enhance hair growth. These substances were found to prevent the testosterone-induced inhibition of dermal papilla cells and keratinocytes, both crucial for hair growth. They also up-regulate the cytokeratin gene expression in HaCaT cells, specialized hair follicular keratinocytes, and prevent the increase in Bax gene levels induced by testosterone. The study suggests that these substances could be potential treatments for androgenic alopecia.
