TLDR Boosting β-catenin signaling in certain skin cells can enhance hair growth.
The 2016 study "Activating β-catenin signaling in CD133-positive dermal papilla cells increases hair inductivity" found that activating β-catenin signaling in CD133-positive dermal papilla cells enhanced hair growth. This was demonstrated through experiments on genetically engineered mice, where increased hair growth was observed when β-catenin signaling was activated in these cells. The study also found that matrix cell proliferation and differentiation were significantly promoted in hair follicles when β-catenin signaling was upregulated in these cells. The researchers concluded that β-catenin signaling plays a crucial role in promoting the inductive capability of CD133-positive dermal papilla cells for in vitro expansion and in vivo hair follicle regeneration.
