TLDR Using platelet-rich plasma for storing hair grafts improves hair regrowth and density.
This randomized controlled study assessed the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a storage solution for hair grafts in hair transplantation for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 60 male patients. The PRP group demonstrated significantly better outcomes in hair regrowth, density, thickness, and the presence of multiple-hair grafts compared to the saline group. After 12 weeks, 86.7% of the PRP group showed more than 75% hair growth, while only 26.7% of the saline group did. The study attributes the superior results of PRP to its high concentration of growth factors, which enhance cellular survival and graft metabolism. Despite the positive findings, the study's limitations include a small sample size and a short follow-up period.
