The study aimed to identify new hair-growth inducers using connectivity mapping (Cmap) and gene expression profiling. Researchers analyzed gene expression in mice treated with cyclosporin A (CsA), a known hair-growth inducer, and identified several agents with similar gene signatures. Fluphenazine, identified from the day 2 signature, successfully induced hair growth in vivo, and its effect was enhanced by subsequent application of iloprost, identified from the day 4 signature. The study demonstrated that Cmap analysis was effective in linking gene expression profiles to potential hair-growth agents, suggesting a promising method for discovering treatments for hair cycle disorders.
