TLDR Linoleic acid is important for healthy skin and hair.
Linoleic acid (LA), an essential fatty acid, plays a significant role in skin and hair health. It contributes to skin barrier repair, wound healing, and has anti-inflammatory properties. LA is involved in the biosynthesis of lipids like ceramides, crucial for skin integrity, and influences conditions such as acne and atopic dermatitis. It also promotes hair growth by regulating pathways like WNT/β-catenin and inhibiting 5α-reductase, a key enzyme in androgenic alopecia. LA-rich oils, such as red ginseng oil and rice bran extract, have shown promise in enhancing hair growth in studies. Despite its potential, further research is needed to fully understand LA's mechanisms and optimize its use in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
