TLDR 4-aminopyridine speeds up and improves skin wound healing.
The study found that 4-aminopyridine (4-AP), a potassium channel blocker, significantly enhanced skin wound healing. It accelerated wound closure, improved skin architecture and epidermal thickness, and increased vascularization and keratinocyte levels. Additionally, 4-AP increased hair follicle numbers and expression of related markers, as well as levels of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. It also boosted axon and Schwann cell numbers and expression of nerve-related factors, enhancing nerve growth and wound healing modulators. Given its existing use in treating neurological conditions, 4-AP showed strong potential for rapid development in wound healing applications.
