Hair follicle melanocytes are specialized cells located in the hair follicles that produce melanin, the pigment responsible for hair color. These cells transfer melanin to the keratinocytes, the cells that make up the hair shaft, giving hair its natural color. Changes or damage to these melanocytes can lead to conditions like graying or loss of hair pigmentation.
