TLDR Lower vitamin D levels may contribute to female hair loss.
The study assessed serum vitamin D levels in 31 women with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) and 31 healthy controls. Results showed that FPHL patients had significantly lower mean serum vitamin D levels (18 ± 7.57 ng/ml) compared to controls (35.09 ± 15.39 ng/ml), suggesting a potential role of vitamin D deficiency in FPHL. The study found a significant negative correlation between vitamin D levels and the severity of hair loss, indicating that lower vitamin D levels were associated with more severe hair loss. These findings supported the hypothesis that vitamin D deficiency might contribute to the pathogenesis of FPHL.
