TLDR Hormone testing may not be very helpful in diagnosing female pattern hair loss.
The study "Is hormone testing worthwhile in patients with female pattern hair loss?" analyzed test results and therapies for 106 adult female patients with female pattern hair loss (FPHL). The most common hormonal disorders in the study population involved increased concentrations of sex hormone binding globulin (38.8%), decreased concentration of total testosterone (25.4%), increased antibody titers against thyroid peroxidase (17.3%), decreased concentrations of dihydroepiandrostendione (15.6%), and increased concentrations of insulin (12.6%). However, despite nearly half of the patients reporting symptoms suggestive of hormonal disorders, no significant abnormalities were revealed in hormone tests. Therefore, the study concluded that hormone testing may not be significantly beneficial in diagnosing FPHL.
