TLDR No strong link between testosterone or DHEAS levels and acne or hair loss in females.
This study involving 84 females found no significant correlation between serum levels of testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) with the severity of acne or female pattern hair loss (FPHL). Most patients had low levels of total testosterone, contradicting previous studies. However, 50% of patients with both conditions had high DHEAS levels, indicating a potential role for DHEAS. The study's limitation was its setting in a tertiary referral center, which may not represent the general population.
