TLDR Higher homocysteine levels may predict hair loss severity.
The study compared homocysteine levels in 60 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and 20 healthy volunteers. It found that serum homocysteine levels were higher in AGA patients compared to controls. Additionally, there was a significant positive correlation between homocysteine levels, body mass index (BMI), and smoking. The study concluded that elevated homocysteine levels were associated with the severity of AGA and could serve as an early predictor for AGA diagnosis.
