TLDR Exosomes from umbilical cord cells fix hearing loss and damaged ear hair cells in mice.
Umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cell-derived exosomes were found to improve hearing loss and rescue the loss of cochlear hair cells in mice receiving chronic cisplatin injection. The treatment also led to beneficial changes in the expression levels of many genes in the cochlear tissues of cisplatin-injected mice, suggesting potential applications in treating ototoxicity-induced hearing loss by promoting tissue remodeling and repair. UCMSC exosomes may have therapeutic potential for treating SNHL and may be a useful therapeutic strategy to repair damaged cochlea.
