TLDR Trypsin slows hair growth and affects color by causing cell death in hair follicles.
The study demonstrated that topical application of trypsin, a serine protease, induced apoptosis in the follicular papilla of a synchronized hair growth mouse model, leading to delayed hair growth and pigmentation. This suggested that trypsin might influence a receptor-mediated signaling pathway responsible for cell death in the follicular papilla.
