TLDR A woman regrew her hair after receiving injections of special cell-derived vesicles.
This case report details the successful treatment of a 36-year-old woman with persistent chemotherapy-induced alopecia (PCIA) using extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from human placental mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). The patient, who had undergone chemotherapy for invasive ductal carcinoma, experienced no significant hair regrowth for 18 months post-treatment. She received subcutaneous injections of MSC-derived EVs every 4 weeks for 3 months, resulting in complete regrowth of terminal hair on her scalp. The study suggests that MSC-derived EVs could be a potential treatment for PCIA, though further research with a larger patient cohort is necessary to confirm these findings.
