TLDR Cell therapy shows promise for treating severe psoriasis but needs more research to confirm safety and effectiveness.
The review article discusses the potential and challenges of using cell therapy for treating severe psoriasis, especially in patients unresponsive to biologic therapies. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) offer immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory benefits, but come with significant risks, costs, and regulatory challenges. MSCs and T regulatory cells (Tregs) are highlighted as potentially safer options compared to HSCT. The article emphasizes the need for well-designed, controlled trials to evaluate the efficacy and safety of these therapies. Early trials show promise, but larger studies are necessary to confirm their effectiveness and address clinical application challenges.
