TLDR Thermus thermophilus extract improves hair growth and scalp health in men with hair loss.
The study assessed the effects of Thermus thermophilus fermentation extract (TTFE) on 32 male subjects with androgenic alopecia (AGA) over 12 weeks, showing significant improvements in hair density, appearance, and scalp health. TTFE reduced hair loss areas, increased hair thickness, and improved scalp barrier function by decreasing trans-epidermal water loss and sebum production. It also promoted hair follicle proliferation, strengthened hair shafts, and exhibited anti-inflammatory effects by reducing reactive oxygen species and pro-inflammatory cytokines. TTFE modulated Wnt and TGF-β signaling pathways, promoting hair growth. Despite promising results, further research is needed due to the study's small sample size and limited population diversity.
