TLDR A spermidine-based supplement may help hair grow longer by keeping it in the growth phase.
In a study from 2017 involving 100 participants, a spermidine-based nutritional supplement was shown to prolong the anagen phase of hair follicles when compared to a placebo. The 90-day trial demonstrated that the supplement increased the number of anagen V-VI hair follicles and Ki-67 levels, which indicate cellular proliferation, and decreased c-Kit levels associated with apoptosis. The pull test results were also more favorable in the spermidine group, with a negative result at six months, in contrast to 68% of the placebo group showing a positive result. These findings suggest potential benefits of spermidine supplements for hair loss conditions, although further research is necessary to confirm its effectiveness for specific hair disorders like telogen effluvium and pattern hair loss.
