    This document describes two methods for obtaining finasteride, a 5α-reductase inhibitor, from commercial tablets. The methods were tested on rats and found to be successful in obtaining finasteride and decreasing allopregnanolone and THDOC content. The methods are simple and allow for the avoidance of chemical synthesis.
