TLDR Finasteride blocks progesterone's effect on absence seizures in rats.
The study found that finasteride, an inhibitor of 5a-reductase, blocked the effect of progesterone on absence seizures in male WAG/Rij rats. The results suggest that it is not progesterone itself, but its metabolite produced by 5a-reductase that is involved in the modulation of absence epilepsy. Finasteride alone had no significant effect on spontaneous SWD in WAG/Rij rats.
