TLDR Quercetin may help improve symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting 4.4-18.6% of women globally. Quercetin (QUR), a flavonoid found in many fruits and vegetables, has been investigated as a potential therapeutic option for PCOS. In vitro studies and animal experiments have shown that QUR can reduce oxidative stress, inhibit apoptosis, repair cell damage, reduce body and ovarian weight, normalize irregular estrous cycles, and alter sex hormone levels. It can also improve insulin resistance, reduce inflammation, and improve oxidative stress. Clinical trials have shown that QUR can effectively reduce serum testosterone, luteinizing hormone, fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, and blood lipid levels in PCOS patients. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings and to understand the specific mechanisms of action.
