TLDR Cinnamon can help manage symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome, improve menstrual cycles and fertility, and positively affect cholesterol and blood sugar levels, but more research is needed to confirm these effects and find the best dosage.
The systematic review from 2021 investigated the effects of cinnamon on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Out of 266 studies, 9 were evaluated. The review found that cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and insulin-sensitizing properties, which can help manage PCOS symptoms. It also suggested that cinnamon could improve menstrual cyclicity and fertility in women with PCOS. Cinnamon supplementation increased high-density lipoprotein and insulin sensitivity while decreasing low-density lipoprotein, triglyceride, and blood glucose in patients with PCOS. However, the effects of cinnamon on body weight and body mass index were inconsistent. Despite promising results, more clinical trials with higher doses of cinnamon and a longer duration of intervention are needed to confirm these findings and establish the optimal dosage and duration of cinnamon treatment for PCOS.
