TLDR Cinnamon may help manage obesity and improve conditions related to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
The review discusses the role of obesity in exacerbating Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and the potential benefits of cinnamon supplementation in managing this condition. Obesity, which is characterized by excessive fat buildup, is linked to insulin resistance, high triglyceride and cholesterol levels, and PCOS. Women with PCOS often have increased fatty tissues, leading to potential health risks such as type-II diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases. A 5% weight loss can improve insulin and testosterone levels, fertility, and menstrual cycle. Cinnamon has been shown to enhance menstrual cyclicity and insulin sensitivity in women with PCOS. The review suggests that cinnamon supplementation, combined with lifestyle modifications, could help manage obesity and PCOS. Cinnamon, especially its bioactive molecule cinnamaldehyde, has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal, antidiabetic, and antiobesity properties, making it potentially beneficial for cardiovascular health and PCOS management.
