TLDR UV exposure reduced hair shine in mice, but minoxidil helped restore it.
This study introduces a novel UV-irradiated mouse model to simulate hair luster loss and evaluate treatments. UVB irradiation at 60 mJ/cm² significantly reduced hair luster, measured by both the Investigator’s Global Assessment (IGA) scale and pixel-based gloss assessment. Oral minoxidil treatment effectively reversed this loss, improving hair luster in both UV-irradiated and non-irradiated groups. Gene expression profiling indicated that UV irradiation upregulated keratinization-related genes, suggesting abnormal keratinization contributes to hair luster loss. This model is valuable for testing hair care treatments and understanding hair health.
