TLDR Tannic acid can reduce hair loss by 56.2% by coating hair and releasing beneficial molecules.
The study examines the potential of tannic acid as a delivery system for SCANDAL molecules (salicylic acid, niacinamide, and dexpanthenol) to reduce hair loss. Tannic acid binds to hair keratin, forming a coating that allows for the controlled release of these molecules, enhancing their efficacy. In a trial with 12 participants, the use of a tannic acid/SCANDAL shampoo led to an average reduction of 56.2% in hair shedding over seven days. While the results are promising, the small sample size limits the generalizability, and future research with a larger cohort is needed.
