TLDR Reference values for nine hormones were established to help diagnose PCOS.
The study established reference values for nine hormones related to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) using the Maglumi X-8 chemiluminescence analyzer, involving 135 disease-free adult females. These hormones include free testosterone, total testosterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, estradiol, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, anti-Müllerian hormone, and androstenedione. The reference values are crucial for diagnosing PCOS, particularly in the Pakistani population and potentially other sub-continental populations. The study emphasizes the importance of hormones like AMH, A4, and fT in PCOS diagnosis and suggests these values can be used with other CLIA systems. It also discusses genetic sub-types of PCOS and the role of hormones like kisspeptin in its pathogenesis.
