TLDR Serum AMH levels are a strong marker for diagnosing PCOS in Indian women.
The study evaluated the diagnostic potential of serum Anti-mullerian Hormone (AMH) levels in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) among 113 Indian women with PCOS and 75 normo-ovulatory women. The results showed that the mean serum AMH level was significantly higher in the PCOS group (7.84±3.67 ng/mL) compared to the control group (3.23 ±1.56 ng/mL). Serum AMH levels positively correlated with the LH/FSH ratio and the number and volume of ovarian follicles, but not with age or BMI. The study determined a cut-off of 3.76 ng/mL for AMH levels, with 86.7% sensitivity and 62.7% specificity. The conclusion is that serum AMH levels could be a potent diagnostic marker of ovarian dysfunction in PCOS, either alone or in conjunction with other tools, to ensure timely diagnosis and early treatment of the disorder.
