TLDR Tofacitinib significantly regrows hair in severe alopecia without major side effects.
This study assessed the efficacy of oral tofacitinib in treating 50 patients with alopecia areata (AA), alopecia totalis (AT), and alopecia universalis (AU) over six months. Results indicated significant hair regrowth, with a mean regrowth rate of 88.9% and a reduction in scalp involvement from 62.48% to 10.5% at 24 weeks. All AA and AT patients experienced over 50% improvement in SALT scores, while 55.6% of AU patients showed similar improvement. No significant side effects were reported, suggesting tofacitinib as a potentially effective treatment for severe alopecia, though longer studies are needed for long-term safety assessment.
