TLDR CD90 is abundantly present on stem-like cells in dog hair follicles.
The study investigated the presence of mesenchymal stem cell marker CD90 on dermal sheath (DS) cells of anagen hair follicles in dogs. Researchers conducted morphological, immunohistochemical, and immunocytochemical analyses to identify CD90+ cells. They found that these cells, which exhibited a fibroblast-like morphology, were predominantly located in the lower part of the anagen hair follicle. The CD90 protein was abundantly expressed in these DS cells, forming a continuous sleeve around the follicle, and was localized at the cytoplasmic membrane level. This study provided insights into the stem cell characteristics of DS cells in canine hair follicles.
