TLDR Key genes IRF2BP2 and EGFR are linked to Hetian sheep's double-coat fleece.
This study explores the genetic mechanisms behind double-coat fleece formation in Hetian sheep using multi-omics and machine learning techniques. By comparing Hetian sheep with Chinese Merino sheep, researchers identified 101 and 106 candidate genes related to coat fleece type and environmental adaptation, respectively. Key genes such as IRF2BP2 and EGFR were highlighted for their importance in fleece traits. The study involved 49 sheep and utilized genome and transcriptome data to perform selective sweep and differential expression analyses. Findings reveal distinct genetic pathways in Hetian and Chinese Merino sheep, providing insights into fleece formation and potential for precision breeding.
