TLDR A new method using stem cell membranes to deliver Minoxidil improved hair growth in mice better than Minoxidil alone.
The study investigated the use of Minoxidil (MXD) delivered via a stem cell membrane delivery controlled release system (STCM-MXD-NPs) in C57BL/6J mice to promote hair growth. The STCM-MXD-NPs were found to be more effective than MXD alone, with the MXD content in the hair bulb tissues being 1.53 times higher in the STCM-MXD-NP group than in the MXD group. The hair growth areas of mice in the STCM-MXD-NP groups were 1.90 times larger than that of the Vehicle group, and 1.21 times larger than that of the MXD group. The STCM-MXD-NPs also significantly increased the expression of hair growth factors VEGF and IGF-1, and upregulated the mRNA and protein levels of VEGF, IGF-1, MKI67, and CTNNB, proteins involved in hair follicle growth and development. The study concluded that STCM-MXD-NPs promoted hair growth more effectively than traditional MXD administration, potentially offering a new and improved treatment for alopecia.
