TLDR Hominis Placenta helps hair grow back by increasing cell growth and a specific growth factor.
In the 2016 study by Seo et al., Hominis Placenta (HP) was shown to promote hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. The mice received topical HP applications daily for 15 days, which resulted in significant increases in hair regrowth, density, and diameter. Histological and immunohistochemical analyses indicated that HP treatment induced the anagen phase in hair follicles and increased cellular proliferation, as shown by higher levels of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) incorporation and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression. Additionally, HP upregulated fibroblast growth factor-7 (FGF-7) at both protein and mRNA levels, a key factor in maintaining the anagen phase. The study, supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea, suggested that HP could be an effective treatment for alopecia, showing comparable results to minoxidil.
