TLDR Cornu cervi pantotrichum pharmacopuncture solution helps mice grow hair by increasing hair follicle cell growth and a growth factor important for hair development.
The study from 2016 examined the impact of Cornu cervi pantotrichum pharmacopuncture solution (CCPPS) on hair growth in C57BL/6 mice, with each experimental group consisting of four mice. The mice received topical CCPPS treatments daily for 15 days after hair depilation. The findings indicated that CCPPS significantly promoted hair growth, as evidenced by the enlargement of the dermal papilla, elongation of the hair shaft, and increased hair thickness. Histological analysis showed increased cellular proliferation within hair follicles, as marked by elevated levels of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Furthermore, CCPPS enhanced the expression of fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-7, which is essential for hair follicle development. The study concluded that CCPPS could be a potential alternative treatment for alopecia due to its ability to stimulate hair follicular cell proliferation and upregulate FGF-7.

Minoxidil may improve or worsen skin quality, with topical forms causing dryness and wrinkles, possibly due to alcohol content, while oral forms have fewer side effects. Some users consider using tretinoin to mitigate negative effects.
