TLDR Scientists grew hair follicles from mouse stem cells in a lab setting.
Researchers successfully derived skin organoids from mouse pluripotent stem cells in a 3D culture, which spontaneously produced de novo hair follicles, mimicking normal embryonic hair folliculogenesis. This in vitro model provided a novel method for studying hair follicle induction, testing hair growth or inhibitory drugs, and modeling skin diseases, without the need for primary cells from embryonic skin or in vivo transplantation.

community Please explain this Minoxidil phenomena

in Minoxidil  56 upvotes 2 years ago
The post discusses the difference in effects of Minoxidil (Min) on scalp and facial hair. The user questions why Min-induced hair growth on the scalp is temporary, while facial hair growth seems permanent, even after stopping Min. They propose theories, including different Min mechanisms on body and facial hair, the role of DHT, and the possibility of not achieving fully terminal hair. The responses include personal experiences and theories about Min's effects on hair growth.

The conversation discusses the potential of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic and linoleic acid, as an additional treatment for hair loss, which may inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT and promote hair growth. Users humorously suggest using oils topically and discuss other hair loss treatments, but the main focus is on the science behind fatty acids and their role in hair health.
