TLDR Hair follicle cells and skin cells differ in keratinization and other features.
The study compared human hair follicle cells (HFC) and epidermal keratinocytes (EK) cultured on mixed collagen membranes. Both cell types exhibited polygonal epithelioid arrangements, but EK cultures showed larger denucleated cells and more prominent stratification earlier than HFC cultures. HFC cultures lacked keratohyalin granules and had suppressed cornified envelope formation compared to EK, indicating differences in keratinization and other characteristics between the two cell types.
