TLDR Abnormal growth factor metabolism may link psoriasis and metabolic syndrome, and obesity can affect psoriasis treatment effectiveness.
This systematic review investigates the potential link between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome through the dysregulation of growth factors. It highlights the roles of growth factors such as b-FGF, HGF, NGF-β, SCF, PDGF-BB, M-CSF, VEGF, EGF, and IGF-1 in cellular processes central to both conditions. These growth factors are implicated in inflammation, tissue remodeling, and metabolic regulation, with potential as therapeutic targets or biomarkers. The review suggests that abnormal metabolism of these growth factors could connect psoriasis and metabolic syndrome, warranting further investigation. Additionally, it notes that obesity can reduce the efficacy of biological treatments for psoriasis, indicating a need for weight-adjusted dosing strategies.
