TLDR Epidermal growth factor helps hair recover after chemotherapy.
The study investigated the effects of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) using a C57BL/6 mouse model. Researchers applied a topical EGF-liposomal solution to hair follicles and found that EGF induced a catagen-like stage, which protected the hair from chemotherapy damage. This pretreatment promoted primary hair recovery through the dystrophic anagen pathway after CIA. The findings suggested that catagen inducers like EGF could serve as a novel strategy for protecting against alopecia, particularly in cases of CIA.
