Stem Cell Factor (SCF), also known as Kit Ligand, is a protein that plays a crucial role in the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells, which are the cells responsible for forming blood. SCF binds to the c-Kit receptor on the surface of these stem cells, activating signaling pathways that are essential for their function and maintenance. This factor is also important in other biological processes, including pigmentation, fertility, and the development of certain cell types in the immune system.
