TLDR Finasteride can cause serious physical, mental, and sexual side effects, even after stopping the treatment.
Finasteride, commonly prescribed for male androgenic alopecia, was associated with notable adverse effects, including physical, mental, neurological, and sexual manifestations, both during and after treatment. Persistent psychiatric disorders, such as depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts, were significant concerns among former users. Genito-urinary symptoms included gynecomastia, decreased sexual desire, and erectile dysfunction. The study suggested that Finasteride side effects and post-Finasteride syndrome should be considered distinct pathophysiological entities, requiring different therapeutic approaches, and called for further research into cerebral neuromodulation related to these conditions.
