Faster Calculation of Scalp Area in Androgenetic Alopecia Before Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy Using the Mobile Application ImageMeter

The study aimed to find a faster way to calculate the scalp area in androgenetic alopecia before Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. The conventional method involves using a graph paper and transparent sheet, which is time-consuming. The researchers used a mobile application called Imagemeter to calculate the scalp area. The application involves taking a photograph of the scalp with a reference scale, aligning the reference scale with that of the application, and marking the area of interest using an inbuilt-marker in the app. The application then calculates the projected area on the display. The study compared the manual method with the application method in 10 cases of androgenetic alopecia and found that the difference was not statistically significant, showing the reliability of the application. The average time required for the manual method was 7.4 minutes, while only 3.3 minutes with the help of the mobile application, thereby saving valuable time for the dermatologist.
