TLDR FPHL common in Taiwanese women; risk factors include BMI, high glucose, early puberty, fewer childbirths, oral contraceptives, and UV exposure.
A study conducted in Taiwan aimed to identify the prevalence and risk factors associated with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) in Taiwanese women aged 30 years or older. The study found that the overall prevalence of FPHL was 11.8%, and the age-specific prevalence increased with advancing age. Factors associated with an increased risk of having FPHL included body mass index, high fasting glucose, earlier puberty, fewer childbirths, oral contraceptive use, and UV exposure over 16 hours per week. Hormone-related factors, such as the number of children and breastfeeding, had a greater impact on FPHL in the population than did other factors. The study concluded that FPHL is a common condition in Taiwanese women, and several factors are associated with an increased risk of having FPHL.
