TLDR Both microneedling and injections are equally effective for treating alopecia areata.
The study compared the efficacy of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) delivered through microneedling versus traditional intralesional injection in treating alopecia areata (AA) in 60 patients. Group 1 received microneedling with local application of injectable TA, while Group 2 received intradermal TA injections, both over three sessions at 3-week intervals. Results showed a mean hair regrowth of 66.36% in Group 1 and 69.75% in Group 2 at week 9, with no significant statistical difference (P = 0.664). Thirteen patients in Group 1 achieved 100% regrowth, and 16 patients in Group 2 achieved 50%-99% regrowth. The study concluded that both methods had similar efficacy, with microneedling providing more uniform but less dense hair regrowth and fewer adverse effects.
