TLDR Injecting platelet-rich plasma under the skin significantly improves hair growth and quality without harmful effects.
The study conducted 5 years ago on 12 hairless rats demonstrated that subcutaneous injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) significantly improved hair growth and quality without causing local toxicity. The rats were divided into four quadrants and treated with PRP, platelet-poor plasma (PPP), physiological serum (PS), or no treatment. The PRP-treated quadrant showed significant hair density improvement at day 28 and month 6 compared to the PPP and PS treated quadrants. Histological improvements were also observed in the PRP treated quadrant, with increased vessels, collagen, and epithelium. The study concluded that controlled PRP might be a useful strategy to treat alopecia.
