Evidence for the Efficacy and Safety of Tadalafil and Finasteride in Combination for the Treatment of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and Erectile Dysfunction in Men with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

    Chris Olesovsky, Anil Kapoor
TLDR Taking tadalafil and finasteride together is safe and effective for treating urinary symptoms and erectile dysfunction in men with enlarged prostates.
The study concluded that combining tadalafil and finasteride was a safe and effective treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and erectile dysfunction (ED) in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Involving 696 participants, the combination therapy significantly improved both LUTS and ED compared to monotherapy, with greater reductions in IPSS scores and higher IIEF-EF scores over 26 weeks. The treatment was well-tolerated, with a lower incidence of sexually related adverse events, making it an attractive option for men with BPH and ED.

A 20-year-old started taking finasteride for hair loss at 18, saw improvement, but developed erectile dysfunction (ED) after taking accutane. Despite stopping both medications, ED persisted, and hair loss worsened. Advice given includes considering tadalafil for ED, resuming finasteride, using minoxidil, and addressing psychological factors through positive thinking and lifestyle changes.
