TLDR Combining tamsulosin and finasteride effectively improves urinary symptoms in elderly BPH patients.
The study observed the efficacy of combining tamsulosin and finasteride in treating urinary symptoms in 96 elderly patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Patients were divided into two groups: one received both medications, while the control group received only finasteride. After 3 months, the combination treatment group showed a higher effective rate of 83.33% compared to the control group. The combination group also had a significantly lower International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and higher maximum urinary flow rate than the control group. Both groups experienced improvements in IPSS scores and residual urine volumes compared to before treatment, with no significant adverse reactions reported. The study concluded that the combination therapy was effective and safe for improving clinical symptoms in elderly BPH patients.
