TLDR Tamsulosin and finasteride improve heart function and circadian rhythm in elderly men with heart failure and prostate issues.
The study investigated the effects of tamsulosin and finasteride on circadian blood pressure rhythm and cardiac function in 122 male elderly patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Over 12 months, patients were divided into a control group and a treatment group, with the latter receiving tamsulosin and/or finasteride. Results showed that the treatment group experienced significant improvements in the 6-minute walk test and a higher transformation rate of circadian rhythm from non-dipper to dipper compared to the control group. Additionally, the treatment group saw a reduction in prostate volume, particularly in those receiving finasteride. The study concluded that tamsulosin and finasteride could enhance cardiac function in patients with CHF and BPH.
