TLDR Terminalia bellirica extract may help promote hair growth and prevent hair loss caused by testosterone.
The study investigated the effects of Terminalia bellirica extract (TBE) on testosterone-induced hair loss in human follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs) and C57BL/6 mice. The results showed that oral administration of TBE promoted hair growth and counteracted the suppression of hair growth caused by testosterone. TBE increased the expression of hair growth markers such as β-catenin, cyclin D1, PCNA, and Ki67, and increased the number of hair follicles in the mice. In HFDPCs, TBE restored the inhibition of cell proliferation induced by testosterone. The study concluded that TBE could potentially be used as a nutraceutical for promoting hair regrowth in androgenetic alopecia-like models.
