TLDR Millet and wheat extracts may improve hair health and promote growth.
The study investigated the effects of a complex of Panicum miliaceum (millet) and Triticum aestivum (wheat) extracts (MWC) on hair health using human dermal papilla cells (iDPCs) and an anagen-synchronized mouse model. MWC treatment increased mRNA levels of antioxidant enzymes, growth factors, and hair growth-related genes while reducing inflammatory cytokine mRNA levels in vitro. In vivo, MWC administration promoted hair growth by elongating the anagen phase and enhancing the expression of growth factors via the wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Importantly, MWC did not affect dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, suggesting it does not cause hormone imbalance. These findings suggest that MWC could be a potential treatment for improving hair health through antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and hair growth-promoting actions without adverse side effects.
