In 2020, a study was conducted on the hair growth-promoting effects of Rumex japonicas Houttuyn ethanol extract (RJHEE) using C57BL/6N mice and HaCaT cells. The study found that RJHEE significantly increased hair growth, density, thickness, and length in the mice. It also promoted the differentiation and proliferation of hair follicles by regulating the Wnt/GSK-3β/β-catenin, ERK, and Bcl-2 anti-apoptosis signaling pathways. In HaCaT cells, RJHEE promoted cell proliferation and protected against H2O2-induced oxidative damage. These results suggested that RJHEE could be a potential treatment for promoting hair growth and protecting against hair damage.
