TLDR Rumex japonicus Houtt. may be an effective treatment for atopic dermatitis by reducing inflammation.
The study from 2019 examined the anti-inflammatory properties of Rumex japonicus Houtt. (RJ) on atopic dermatitis (AD) through both in vitro and in vivo experiments. In vitro, RJ was found to inhibit the activation of key inflammatory pathways in TNF-α stimulated human keratinocyte HaCaT cells. In vivo, Balb/c mice with DNCB-induced AD-like skin lesions showed significant improvement after topical RJ treatment, including reduced dermatitis severity, epidermal thickness, and infiltration of mast cells and eosinophils. The study concluded that RJ has the potential to be an effective therapeutic agent for AD by regulating inflammatory responses. The in vivo experiments involved five mice per group, and the results were based on the mean ± SD of three independent experiments.
