TLDR A child's hair loss from alopecia areata was fully reversed in five months using diet and supplements.
In a case study from November 2020, an eight-year-old male diagnosed with alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune condition causing hair loss, was treated with a combined dietary and supplementation approach. The regimen focused on unrefined foods high in vitamins A and D, zinc, and included additional supplements such as a multi-nutrient, zinc sulfate, and fish oil with vitamin D. The treatment led to complete remission of AA within five months, suggesting a potential link between diet, specific micronutrients, and the management of AA.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

How diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA) is not an invitation to self-diagnose oneself with aggressive AGA and that seeking a specialized dermatologist may help people experiencing hair loss. Treatment options discussed include topical clobetasol propionate, oral minoxidil, and discontinuing finasteride.
